Connecticut Special Education: State Advisory Council for Special Education Issues Annual Report for 2023 Findings

The State Advisory Council for Special Education in Connecticut recently released its annual report for 2023. The report outlines the process and activities undertaken to determine the “unmet needs” of students with disabilities. ​

The report highlights the Council’s priorities for the upcoming 2024-2025 year, including areas such as least restrictive environment, special education staffing, student voice in education, and restraint and seclusion and social/emotional mental health. ​

Recommendations are provided for each priority area, such as additional funding and training for inclusive practices, increased compensation and incentives for special education professionals, and promoting student voice and participation. ​

The report also emphasizes the importance of addressing teacher shortages, implementing Universal Pre-K, and incorporating student input into decision-making processes. ​
